Lawrence Laughery's recovery program

Lawrence Laughery's recovery program

A great meeting!

Trail runner and social educator Lawrence Laughery has joined our ambassador team this year!

Recently injured, he tells us about his journey and his recovery program.

Algorigin: Tell us where do you come from?

Lawrence: Of American origin, I was born in Vevey and grew up in Villars-sur-Ollon in the canton of Vaud. My parents raised my brothers and me in an idyllic setting for outdoor activities. From an early age, I felt at home on technical mountain trails. As a teenager, I took a step back from sport and nature, only to return to it a few years later when I began to miss it. Four years ago, I took up running again, and two years later I discovered trail running. Today, I'm a member of the Swiss Compressport team.

A : What are the most important personality traits or physical abilities for a trailer, in your opinion?

L: Trail running is an exciting, demanding and strategic discipline. It's open to anyone who wants to experience adventure and push their limits. But there are a few things you need to know before you set off. You need to enjoy being alone at times, and be willing to fight with yourself. Linking our physical and mental capacities is a challenge that requires a deep understanding of ourselves. Good training and muscular strength take us a long way, but a mind of steel will take us even further. Knowing your strengths, weaknesses and nutritional needs is the key to a successful race strategy. It goes without saying that love of the mountains and nature, and respect for volunteers and competitors alike, are all part of the trailing spirit.

A : You recently had an accident. Would you like to tell us about it?

L: During a long outing training session, I stumbled on the way down and caught myself with my right leg in extension. I spent a good half-hour waiting for first aid. I fractured my fibula and my tibial plateau, but I saved my cruciate ligaments. They quickly operated on me and inserted a plate with screws to straighten the tibia and restore it to its correct height. I have to put an end to my 2019 season and wait until September before I can hit the trails again.

A : Can you tell us about your recovery? What are you doing to get back into shape as quickly as possible?

L: One of the first things I thought about for optimal recovery was my nutrition. I know the power of food, and with my nutritionist, we drew up a recovery plan with the foods to focus on. I use Algorigin micro-nutrition to complete this program. I do a course ofKlamath AFA, known to repair the body by releasing stem cells. I continue to take Spirulina and a course ofSpirulina Elixir to boost my energy. I'm getting plenty of rest, accepting the injury, digesting it and moving on as best I can. The injury is an adventure parallel to a race: I'm looking forward to crossing the finish line, but I'm going to remember the journey I've been on since I left the starting line. It's an emotional elevator, there are ups and downs, joy and frustration, but I'm still moving forward and my spirits are high.

A : Did you feel the effects of the algae?

L: I've been supplementing my diet with Algorigin algae for over a year now. At first, I was taking it randomly and not very regularly. Since I met Pauline Nouvellet, the Algorigin micronutrtionist, I have a detailed plan with the algae to use before, during and after exercise. Today, I feel more energetic, more alert and recovery is shorter. It's important to remember that food supplements do not replace a good basic diet.

A : How did you hear about Algorigin?

L: I heard about Algorigin through Diego Pazos, a Swiss ultra-trail runner. I already knew about the virtues of spirulina, but the one I was taking before wasn't of such good quality. I was looking for a Swiss brand that was respectful of the environment, and I found what I was looking for in Algorigin. The team is top-notch and we share the same values!

A : What message would you like to pass on to athletes who don't yet know Algorigin?

L: When I talk to other sportsmen and women about seaweed supplementation, they often say: " I prefer to eat well and eat properly so I don't have to take food supplements ". I understand this way of thinking and I'm all for it. But we've reached a stage where that's not enough. Our farmland produces food with a lower nutritional content (in iron, magnesium, amino acids, vitamin D, omega 3, etc.). Production methods also play a decisive role in product quality. Natural food supplementation is the answer to this problem. It's about more than sports performance: it's about giving your body what it needs. It's natural, it's not doping, and it's not addictive.
