A head full to bursting, racing thoughts, a morning that's already overloaded: Klamath algae gets to the root of it, with vitamin B12 concentrated by nature.

AFA Klamath (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) is a blue-green microalga that grows wild in Klamath Lake, Oregon. Nourished by snowmelt and thick volcanic sediment, it naturally concentrates vitamin B12 that is not synthesised in a laboratory but produced by the algae as it grows: 173% of the NRV in 3 capsules. Wild-harvested, certified organic, tested batch by batch (microcystins), and filled into plant-based capsules. Algorigin is a Swiss brand: Klamath algae is available in more than 600 Swiss pharmacies.

A balanced mind: vitamin B12 contributes to normal psychological function and to the normal functioning of the nervous system.

A clear mind, from morning to night: vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy-yielding metabolism and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, when the mental load starts to weigh on you.

Supported defences: vitamin B12 contributes to the normal function of the immune system.

AFA Klamath, or Klamath algae, is a cyanobacterium (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae) that grows naturally in Klamath Lake, in southern Oregon, USA. It is one of the few microalgae eaten in its wild state: rather than being grown in ponds, it is harvested from the lake in summer, when it blooms. This shallow lake, lined with volcanic sediment and fed by snowmelt from the Cascades, has exceptionally mineral-rich water.

Klamath algae is closely related to spirulina (both are blue-green cyanobacteria) but stands out for its content of vitamin B12, phenylethylamine (PEA) and phycocyanin, as well as its complete amino acid profile. It has been used since the 1980s as a “mental” supplement: focus, mood, mental load. Klamath or spirulina? See also our Organic Spirulina

AFA Klamath has no health claim of its own. Its recognised benefits are based on its vitamin B12, naturally concentrated by the algae:

Psychological balance and mental load

Vitamin B12 contributes to normal psychological function and to the normal functioning of the nervous system. This is our customers' number one use: demanding periods, exams, mental overload.

Energy and clarity

Vitamin B12 contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal energy-yielding metabolism.

Immunity and red blood cells

Vitamin B12 contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to normal red blood cell formation.

Klamath and focus

The phenylethylamine (PEA) naturally present in AFA is a molecule studied for its role in attention and mood. No authorised claim: we are talking about composition, not effect.

Klamath and the gut, osteoarthritis, weight loss

These uses circulate online but are not based on any authorised claim. AFA Klamath is a nutritional supplement (vitamin B12, protein, minerals), not a treatment.

Adults under heavy mental load

Intense work, busy family life, shift work: a 3-month course, every morning. See the Mental Balance Pack.

Teenagers and students during exams

Adult dosage from age 15, on your pharmacist's advice.

Vegetarians and vegans

173% of the NRV for vitamin B12 per dose: the most concentrated plant source of B12 in our range, alongside Organic Chlorella.

Postpartum

Vitamin B12 contributes to normal psychological function and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue: AFA Klamath is included in our Postpartum Pack (not while breastfeeding without medical advice).

90-day money-back guarantee

Read me

Hi everyone! I've got to tell you something: this algae, what a discovery!! I work in design (not exactly a walk in the park) and in the 3 weeks I've been taking it, I feel calmer and less “frazzled”, if you know what I mean. 100% recommend!

A pleasant surprise

Two young children and a job with shift work: I tried it without expecting much, on a colleague's advice. After a month, I feel calmer day to day and less on edge. And I enjoy this little morning moment, simple and quick.

Frequently asked questions about Klamath algae

What are the benefits of Klamath?

Klamath algae is a highly concentrated source of vitamin B12, which contributes to normal psychological function, to the normal functioning of the nervous system, to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to the normal function of the immune system. It also provides complete protein, phycocyanin and phenylethylamine.

Klamath or spirulina: what is the difference?

Both are cyanobacteria. Spirulina is pond-grown and richer in protein and iron; Klamath is wild, richer in vitamin B12 and PEA, and used for mental well-being. For physical energy and iron: spirulina. For mental load and balance: Klamath.

Is Klamath algae dangerous?

Klamath Lake is also home to other cyanobacteria that can produce microcystins. That's why every Algorigin batch is tested and certified organic. At the recommended doses, AFA is well tolerated. If you take antidepressants, seek medical advice.

Klamath and the thyroid?

AFA contains trace amounts of iodine. If you have a thyroid condition, ask your doctor for advice.

Klamath and antidepressants?

Klamath contains phenylethylamine, a molecule similar to certain neurotransmitters: seek medical advice before combining the two.

Klamath for the gut, osteoarthritis, weight loss: does it work?

No claims are authorised for these uses. AFA Klamath is a source of nutrients (vitamin B12, protein), not a treatment.

When should I take Klamath, and how many capsules?

3 capsules in the morning on an empty stomach, before breakfast.

How long before you feel the effects?

Most of our customers describe a change after 3 to 4 weeks; the recommended course is 3 months.

Klamath in capsules, tablets or powder?

The powder has a very strong taste. Algorigin plant-based capsules provide a precise, tasteless dose and protect the alga from oxidation.

Is AFA Klamath organic?

Yes, certified organic by OTCO (Oregon Tilth Certified Organic), wild-harvested.

Where can I buy Klamath algae in a pharmacy in Switzerland?

How long does a jar last?

15 days at 3 capsules a day; the 1-month course includes 2 jars. 90-day money-back guarantee.
