Sportives-adoptez-Spiruline-Fer Algorigin

Sunday June 23rd is the 4th Arly Cîmes Trail. On this occasion, the Fémini Trail Duo honors women on a 13 km course with 650m of positive elevation gain. Algorigin will offer sportswomen, Spirulina enriched with IRON , a natural health solution to fill their iron deficiencies.

IRON DEFICIENCY IN SPORTS WOMEN

Practicing an impact sport such as trail running can lead to greater use and loss of iron. The loss of this mineral essential to our body can ultimately lead to anemia. This is all the more true in women who also have increased iron needs, mainly due to losses linked to menstruation.

IRON LOSS DUE TO SPORTS PRACTICE

Sports practice induces the direct destruction of red blood cells via repeated impacts but also micro lesions responsible for bleeding. Even though these generally go unnoticed, they reduce the circulating iron stock. Since iron is stored mainly in the blood, stocks are directly impacted.

On the other hand, when exercise feeding is not done optimally, there is a risk of ischemia-reperfusion syndrome at the intestinal level.
Indeed, during exercise, the blood is mainly present in the muscles in order to cover oxygenation needs. The phenomenon of ischemia re-perfusion occurs when this “muscle” blood returns to the intestines to ensure digestion. It results in the appearance of lesions in the digestive tract also leading to bleeding.

IRON LOSS DUE TO MENSTRUATION

Iron losses induced by menstruation correspond to approximately 30 to 70 mg of iron per month. Thus, women lose on average twice as much iron per day as men.

Intakes must therefore be increased accordingly and correspond to 15mg/day in women. They are calculated according to the percentage of absorption of different irons (animal or vegetable) and are sufficient to cover needs.

CONSEQUENCES OF IRON DEFICIENCY OR ANEMIA

Iron deficiency or anemia results in shortness of breath, paleness, increased fatigue or even dizziness. In athletes, and indeed sportswomen, the reduction in tissue oxygenation can also lead to a reduction in sporting performance.

A NEW SOLUTION FOR SPORTS WOMEN: SPIRULINA IRON

WHO, in 2016, highlights that "Daily iron supplementation in menstruating women increases haemoglobin levels and iron reserves and reduces the risk of anaemia and iron deficiency. In addition, iron supplementation improves exercise performance […] and may improve fatigue."

Or, Spiruline FER Algorigin , iron-enriched spirulina provides optimal iron intake (93% of the recommended daily intake) without the digestive side effects often found with traditional supplements containing iron salts (constipation, nausea, vomiting). Its absorption in the body is equivalent to the absorption of animal iron and it does not present a risk of increased oxidation. Thus, it is an interesting source of plant iron.
