Environmental pollution is becoming more and more visible in everyday life, with many harmful consequences for people and the environment. It is estimated, for example, that by 2050 the seas and oceans will contain more plastic waste than fish.
This Saturday, 150 countries are taking part in World CleanUp Day. The aim is to clean up the planet – and have fun doing it!
It all began in Estonia in 2008, when more than 10,000 tonnes of waste were collected in just a few hours. This year, the green wave will start in New Zealand and end 36 hours later in Hawaii. Across France, the goal is to mobilise more than 3 million people to clean up designated sites.
